	-	This girl wore a series of LLC's and SLC's for a broken ankle after a serious trampoline accident.	Vel	10/15/00
	59K	Vel writes: "She was in a med llc as a result of a broken upper tibia. The break was in the upper tibia right near where it ends at the knee. She was running to catch a bus when she felt a pain in her knee and went down for the count. She could not believe she had actually broken something. They casted her immediately and observed her over night until the next morning when she was released. She was a student at the time and I encountered her a few days after she had the cast removed. She was using a cane and limping markedly. She wore the cast for 6 weeks. This was in the spring of 1997."	Vel	1/22/00

Moncton North candidate Nancy Hartling is in background. The NDP leader broke her ankle last week at a policeman's ball in Saint John and is walking gingerly." Vel added the following comments: "Interestingly, there were very few shots of her in the cast. She was casted for the start of the election campaign and was usually seated behind fully enclosed tables or desks with her casted leg well hidden. In fact, for the first couple of conferences, she would arrive before the press and only be seen seated until the end when the press was asked to leave ... and she would only then presumably get up. I also saw a TV interview with her from her home and the casted leg was cunningly (sic) hidden beneath a coffee table.. After a few weeks casted, she was changed into a camwalker. In the cam, she even came to shake hands at my place of work during lunch hour one day - unfortunately i was away from work at a course... I was just relieved that she was only in the Cam at the time - I would have been Royally ticked had she still been casted..."	Vel	1/1/00

It has however grown internationally significantly in the last 10 years and is now played in more than thirty countries world wide. This was recognized by the International Olympic Committee by accepting curling as a full medal sport at the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan 1998.� Although it's not generally considered a dangerous sport, you do have to be careful not to drop the stone on your foot!
